CR&E’s scientists and engineers are extensively trained in engineering and design of plant operations and system conditions. Engineering experience and process modeling help support CR&E in dealing with process upset conditions with furnace operations. Plant operations support includes working on process control equipment, liquid incineration systems, deactivation systems, and metal parts furnace systems. Our engineers also have direct experience as Operation Specialists, Engineers and Managers at United States Demilitarization Facilities. CR&E personnel are highly experienced with forced emergency shutdowns on high temperature thermal treatment systems.
CR&E Operations Specialists, Test and Start-up Engineers have extensive training in the operation of conventional and nuclear power, demilitarization and hazardous waste, oil, coal and plasma arc facilities. Our engineers have experience at multiple United States Demilitarization Facilities during start-up, operation, maintenance and process design for new secondary and closure waste streams. CR&E proposes to develop a course that combines combustion science, furnace controls, furnace operation and specific furnace troubleshooting and maintenance. The objective of this training is to increase the operator’s knowledge to a level that will allow engineering and maintenance to utilize the operator’s knowledge of a specific event to diagnose and repair a problem. Continental Research and Engineering, LLC has over 100 years combined experience in startup, systemization and commissioning of commercial power and process facilities. CR&E professionals have hands on experience in the commissioning and operation of nuclear, fossil and cogeneration power facilities, coal drying facilities, coke ovens, demilitarization facilities, etc. CR&E personnel are highly experienced in writing operating and maintenance procedures, performance test procedures, trial burn plans, equipment initial operations test procedures, integrated system test plans, and facility operational test procedures. CR&E personnel are also well versed in the programs and procedures required for startup of facilities i.e. jurisdictional control of equipment, instrument calibration procedure, jurisdictional control tagging procedure, safety tagging procedure, generic hydrostatic test procedure, generic test procedures to ensure proper documentation during initial operation of equipment i.e. pump, motor, fan, compressor, diesel generator, etc. CR&E experience in management and startup of power and process facilities can make the transition from construction to operation a pleasant experience.
Safety
CR&E has certified safety professionals specialized in process hazard analysis for plant facilities and facility design changes. The Safety Systems Engineer also develops and evaluates operating procedures, maintenance procedures and special projects for any type of facility operation. CR&E has reviewed and modified Functional Analysis Workbooks and Standard Operating Procedures for Chemical Weapons Demilitarization Facilities based on correct plant procedures. Modifications to these documents are important from a safety and operations standpoint when the facilities change equipment design and plant operations.
CR&E’s experience includes designing and conducting trial burns for Chemical Demilitarization Facilities. Our personnel have training in planning and implementing trial burn programs for Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) permitted incinerators. CR&E personnel have experience in directing the preparation and performance of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) trial burns at several United States Demilitarization Facilities.
The Control Systems Engineers provide design, programming, analysis, start-up, and troubleshooting of PLC control and data. Recently, CR&E was involved in analyzing and modifying the forced shutdown scenarios at Anniston Chemical Agent Demilitarization Facility (ANCDF). Work included analyzing Programmable Logic Control (PLC) code from Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Demilitarization System (JACADS) and ANCDF, modifications to PLC code and equipment, and testing and verification. Another project included work with the programming control code for the Deactivation Furnace System (DFS) isolation damper in Tooele, Utah.
